Poisson and Gaussian Approximations for Multi-Server Queues with Batch Arrivals and Batch Abandonment

چکیده
In this paper, we consider nonstationary multi-server queues and multiserver loss queues with batch arrivals and where we allow customer abandonment to also occur as a Markovian batch process. To estimate the performance of the system, we develop two new approximations that take advantage of the functional Kolmogorov forward equations. The first approximation we develop uses the Poisson distribution, which is motivated from the infinite server queue offered load process. The second approximation uses a Gaussian distribution, which is motivated by the many server heavy traffic limit theorems of Mandelbaum et al [13]. We compare our results with Monte Carlo simulation and show that our approximations provide accurate estimates of the mean, variance, probability of delay, and the probabilty of blocking for the queueing process.

Approximations for Heavily-Loaded G/GI/n +GI Queues
Motivated by applications to service systems, we develop simple engineering approximation formulas for the steady-state performance of heavily-loaded G/GI/n+GI multi-server queues, which can have non-Poisson and non-renewal arrivals and non-exponential service-time and patience-time distributions. The formulas are based on recently established Gaussian manyserver heavy-traffic limits, but invol...
متن کاملInfinite-server Queues with Batch Arrivals and Dependent Service Times
Motivated by large-scale service systems, we consider an infinite-server queue with batch arrivals, where the service times are dependent within each batch. We allow the arrival rate of batches to be time-varying as well as constant. As regularity conditions, we require that the batch sizes be i.i.d. and independent of the arrival process of batches, and we require that the service times within...
متن کاملGaussian skewness approximation for dynamic rate multi-server queues with abandonment
The multi-server queue with non-homogeneous Poisson arrivals and customer abandonment is a fundamental dynamic rate queueing model for large scale service systems such as call centers and hospitals. Scaling the arrival rates and number of servers arises naturally when a manager updates a staffing schedule in response to a forecast of increased customer demand. Mathematically, this type of scali...
متن کاملTrunk Reservation Effects on Multi-Server System with Batch Arrivals of Loss and Delay Customers
A multi-server system with trunk reservation is studied. The system is offered by two types of customers (class-1 and class-2). They arrive in independent batch Poisson streams and have an exponentially distributed service time. Class-1 customers will be lost or rejected if they find all S servers busy on their arrivals. Class-2 customers will use at most S′ = S − R servers and enter a queue wi...
متن کاملAn Invariance in the Priority Queue with Generalized Server Vacations and Structured Batch Arrivals
Shanthikumar [10] studied the priority M/G/1 queue with server vacations and found that the difference between the waiting time distribution under the non-preemptive priority and that under the preemptive-resume priority is independent of the vacation policy. We extend this interesting property i) to the generalized vacations which includes the two vacation policies considered by Shanthikumar, ...
